While this was produced in 1947, the document covers all allied shipping losses within Coast Guard jurisdiction or operations during the 1941-1945 period.

Until anti-submarine efforts were perfected and Enigma codes broken, the loss of allied shipping in the early war years was pretty devastating - 1942 in particular.

By 1944, losses were far and few with a small uptick in July that year attributed to purpose sinkings near the Normandy landing areas. (see page 87 in the attached document for the losses by year)

Often overlooked, the Coast Guard was highly involved in the war.

184 pages, lots of photo's and details on each ship loss and incident logged by the CG between 1941-1945.

Great informational post . The Coast Guards contribution to victory is often overlooked and downplayed in the history books. Those guys worked their asses off and fully deserve our thanks as a nation.
