I thought you may like to view this pristine RAAF flying officer's tunic, named to 428413 Dugald Geoffrey Rimmington. He was attached to 103 Squadron RAF, Elsham Wolds, England. His Lancaster was shot down by flak near Dresden during the famous raid of 13/14 Feb 1945. The tunic, tailored by Gieves of London, was never worn due to Rimmington's death.
I also have his log book and other ephemera, including a letter of condolence to his mother from the 103 Sq O/C.
The family suffered an earlier loss when Dugald's brother was killed in a Sunderland that crashed in Gibraltar Harbour, 1942.
Items like this really emphasise the sadness and waste of war.
Please also note the royal blue, unique to the RAAF. The Brits called us "blue orchids."
