View Full Version : 7 Pistols ..2 Years of Waiting

My Dad passed away in 2004 but I couldn’t take possession of his Handguns until I had a NY Permit …so they stayed in Florida. In 2007 I had an FFL down there ship 7 of them to a NY FFL who’s been holding them for me ever since. The problem was , I use to have a full carry permit in Massachusetts ..never had an issue. But , moved to California and had to let it expire. After we moved to NY , I didn’t get around to applying for a Permit until 2002 …thing is, I had filled out the paperwork in 2001 and they said all the Notary Stamps had expired. So , I had to redo everything and get new Character Ref.
Between work (and having a Life) I was again delayed but finally filled everything out and submitted it.
This time they told me that the Forms had changed and the ones I used were obsolete.
So …back to square one again.
Finally last August I started the process again ..called the PP Unit and was told that again the forms had changed and now I needed 4 Character References (not 3).
Thankfully …the Detective I spoke with was fantastic and with his help, I was able to get everything done correctly.
So after 2 years of waiting …I now have the Permit and the Pistols .
Many of you don’t know how lucky you are …”things” can get pretty involved here in the NE .
My favorite in the Group is the 45 …it belonged to a Major who was with the Guards at the Nurnberg Trials

Wish I had the orig clip for it ..that's ok, this one will do just fine.
I forget if he bought it from the Major or his son ..but, they did customize the Trigger and Barrel. But they saved the original parts which my Dad saved.

The Dreyse is an interesting one ..came from a Vets Widow who took it off a Luft Crew member who bailed after his Plane was hit. Still has the orig Holster.

Mike,
I particularly like the P08.
If you think you have hassles with firearms, try living in Australia. Knee-jerk restrictions after a couple of unfortunate incidents have taken guns from most law-abiding citizens.
Owning a simple rifle is a hassle...a pistol almost impossible.
The unintended result is that now only criminals have easy access to guns.

Mike:
Every time I read something like this It makes me glad I live in Arizona. Ship pistols of this vintage here? I'd send a copy of my C&R License to the holder in Fla. and they would be shipped(except for the Raven) directly to my home -- end of story.
BTW: If you need a two-tone mag. for your 45 email me as I probably have a spare.

I remember as a kid in NY, having a handgun was a big deal.Like Mike, there were forms and approvals and more forms and references ,so much so ,nobody had one . This was in the 1950's ,when you could mail order them from Kleins in Chicago. Here in Az. with your CCW,[which everyone has], the gun purchase takes as long as it takes to fill out the 4473 Fed form and hand over the money. At the gun shows ,it's just handing over the money and showing a Az. ID . BUTttttt, you got them and that's what counts. Nice stuff, especially with the history . Take Care, BB

Nice guns Mike. I especially like the 1911 too. Very nice example and it's great you have the history behind some of them. I have a Walther PP and a 1914 Mauser that were brought home by an officer on Patton's staff. The 1914 with holster was actually surrendered to him by a German officer. I'll never let go of those two.

MP,
You these guys are jealous knowing you have joined an elite group of collectors. Anyone can find a Nambu, 1911, or 08.... but an operational RAVEN?? NOW... get you a set of these rare limited edition (post crippling lawsuit version #1) "pimp grips" and you will reach the peak of classic collecting. :D

Buying a handgun in Missouri has got better now than it was before the Brady Bill. In the old days you needed a permit to buy in Missouri. You had to get that from the county you lived in. If you found a handgun you wanted to buy at a gunshow or whatever. You had to get the details you know serial no. make, model from the dealer. Then go back to your county get your permit then go back and get your handgun. Well after the brady bill was passed and we finally a new state legistlature the old ones were term limited OUT. The permit to buy was dropped. Now you can just pass the background check pay for your handgun and take it home with you.

Geez, I didn't realize Missouri had that kind of goofy stupid law like NY . That was what I remember as a kid, permit, from the cops. Would have thought Missouri was more like AZ, BB

Before term limits the democrats controled Missouri. We like to never got ccw passed. It passed three times and the Dem. governor vetoed it. The last time there were enough Republicans to override his veto. Then we finally got a Republican governor and legislature. Then we got out of the dark ages. That was the main reason I got a C&R. So I didn't have to go get a permit everytime I wanted to buy a handgun. I bet the dems are still POed they let term limits pass. But now we get some turn over in the legislature. Just what we need in DC too. Missouri was a high crime state in the 30s and keep a lot of outdated laws until the last few years. Thats what happens when one party controls the state too long.
