I met a guy ,years ago, who was with the 82nd in WW2. He was part of the Sicily invasion force. He said that many of their paratroop laden planes were shot down by THE US NAVY who hadn't been told that the operation was a combined air and sea deal. He also said he had a camo outfit on and when he landed he was CAPTURED by US Troops. They didn't believe that he was an american soldier because they said only the Germans wore camo. He said the whole part of their involvement was so SNAFU'ed that he didn't think it made any difference. He was also part of Market Garden. I have a set of jump wings with his unit ID, BB

American Combat Engineers at Normandy were wearing camo but had to be issued standard uniforms because they were being shot at by friendlies who thought ''Camouflage equal German"
