    Post Need help with G43

    What is Cleaning rod length?

Would a 98K sling be appropriate?

Where could I find a sight hood?

    I have a G43 duv 44 (WaA214) 5737, that was brought back by WW2 Veteran.

    He "Sporter-ized" it 1950s style.

I am trying to return it to what it should be, for his grandson.

I think that the cleaning rod is 12.5 inches and a K98 sling would be appropriate. I am not sure where you would find a front sight hood.

Thank you, I have seen both 10.2" and 12.5" listed as for the G43, so that's why I was inquiring.

It uses the same 12.5" inch rod that the k98 uses. At the Front makes the best sling reproduction (again same as K98). A nice original will run around $150.

As for the sight hood, my recommendation would be to get a reproduction. Historical Parts and Militaria has them. An original G43 hood is taller than a K98 hood--they are very difficult to find and will be over $150 when you find one.

If the stock is sporterized, I recommend getting a stock from Lesek: http://www.fox-military.com/en/. He makes the best reproduction currently on the market.

    Thanks for the information.

I do have stock and hand guard on order from him, placed order last week.

Having researched previous threads on this forum has been very informative.

I wish I had a camera, to post pictures...hopefully will before finished.

    My previous experience has been with U.S. weapons (Garands/Carbines/03-A3s), and a few non-german mausers, FN-49, & No.4 Mk1.

Sight hoods are nuts expensive. I saw one listed at $220 a while back!! Maybe you could just use a standard 98k hood. Good luck on your project, and welcome to the forum.

98k sight hood looks terrible / buy a repro G43 hood until you run across an original

Thanks.......I've got a couple 98k hoods lying around, and they definitely are too short in height......presents terrible sight picture.

I know it's been months, since I finished this for my buddy. I have finally gotten a digital camera, and we took it to the range this past Tuesday, for the first time. Used PPU "Match" ammunition which is a little weak, as the ejection pattern was about 2 feet, at 3:00.

The replacement stock/handguard from Leszek Foks, as you can see, is beautiful, and the fit was spot on.

Great resurrection job! Sight hood looks a bit off but once you get an original G43 hood it will look perfect.
I'm amazed by the continuing quality improvements of Fox's stocks.
