    To the soldier at the front handling this rifle, it must have become clear that this had turned into a war of attrition and Germany was not winning it.

    Me too. I started with RC, then had a love for the early gorgeous pieces. Lately I've come to appreciate these for what they are. I just got my first and am still seeking late war pieces. They definitely tell a story.
