I thought BSW was only in business for 3-4 years making K98kís in the late 30ís. Isnít the stock on this one Gew98 length? If so, how could it be BSW, unless they did some G98 re-stocking?

Simson made Gew98s ever since 1915 through the war with only a couple 1918 receivers reported . They produced Karab98bs in the Weimar era and then again as you said starting in 1936 . There is a long history of this company producing arms. They simply did not produce the numbers of other companies. Pictured is my matching except handguard 1915 Gew. 1 of only 3 or 4 known.

That's in incredible piece Rick. The 1915 Simson is one of the rarest pieces too own for that year and by that maker. Probably the only other one that is in the same league as far as rarity goes would be a 1915 kornbusch.

BSW 1933-1939, the Simson brothers were an early target of the National Socialists, especially due to the influential governor of Thuringia (Saukel) and early nazi enthusiast Fritz Walther. The Simson's were widely despised due to their business being favored in the postwar period with government contracts, it didn't help they were Jews either... many firms got scrutiny, but few earlier than Simson, even the Army took potshots at them, though reportedly General Thomas (key figure in German rearmament, Colonel at the time i believe) defended them, at least initially, but when it got too dangerous for anyone to speak out, he too got wise to the inevitable.

Anyway, Simson and early BSW made all sorts of ordnance spares, this is such a stock, they made RS components, stocks and barrels in large numbers, - these are not rare. It is also not a sign of Simson/BSW (synonymous until 1935 when the Simson's were "convinced" of the sound reasoning to sign over their company w/o compensation, -in exchange for their skin and not being charged with defrauding the German government...) involvement or BSW reworking. These were supplied to the ordnance depots.

Simson/15 is much scarcer than WOK/15, Simson/15 is damn rare, 8 known, 3567 is highest known, a third of the range WOK/15 has. Both are damn desirable though!
