Here's an interesting fliegerbluse worn by a stabszahlmeister who spent time in North Africa.

I've always thought the same thing. There's a ring of stitches near the bottom of each sleeve that doesn't appear to serve a purpose.
I wonder if it's a retailored service tunic, in similar fashion to many Ike jackets?
